Malcolm came to Birmingham as our minister on 1st September 2016. Malcolm has two grown-up children and twin daughters who attend a local infant school. He is married to Gina who is a nurse.
Malcolm and his family have recently been in Mozambique for three years as mission partners. Malcolm trained for the Methodist Ministry at Wesley College in Bristol and was ordained in Zambia. He enjoys spending time with family, do it yourself and hill walking.
In the new shared Circuit Superintendency, Revd Malcolm is the Superintendency Co-Ordinator.
Revd Alan Smithson – Alan has pastoral responsibility for Falcon Lodge, South Parade and Streetly Methodist Churches in the suburban and rural cluster of the circuit.
Alan has been a presbyteral minister in the Methodist Church for nearly 25 years and has served in County Durham and Cheshire before coming to the Midlands.
Prior to entering the ministry Alan worked in the field of industrial research in the glass industry.
Within the life of the church Alan has a keen interest in the relationship between science and theology, his latest sabbatical study was on the challenge of Artificial Intelligence to Theology, and for people to deepen their faith in the Christian life.
Alan is married with three grown up children and one small dog. When not involved in the life of the church Alan can be found walking said small dog in Sutton Park, tackling the weeds in the garden and trying out new recipes on his unsuspecting family (He is still a chemist at heart!).
Deacon Marilyn Slowe – I am originally from Sierra Leone and keep a strong link with my home church of St John’s Maroons, Freetown. I started serving as an ordained minister in 2012 after training at Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham. Prior to which I had worked in various secular / Christian settings both paid and voluntary. I have served the Methodist Church in many capacities including Circuit Steward and Circuit Treasurer in the Tower Hamlet Circuit in London.
I am a full member of the Methodist Diaconal Order and live by a rule of life which gives rhythm to my day and my prayer life. My spirituality informs my actions of hospitality that sustains my being and doing.
I have always been passionate about Women and lay empowerment and matters of justice, inclusion and equality. I am currently serving as Vice-President of Birmingham MWiB.
I help God’s people reach their full potential and enjoy the abundant life that Christ promised regardless of their journey.

Revd Stephen Froggatt – Stephen Froggatt joined the Sutton Park Circuit in September 2017 after completing his initial station in the Warrington area. He came into Methodist Ministry after a 20-year career as a Maths teacher in the South-East of England, which led to theological training at the Wesley Study Centre in Durham. He is married to Kathleen with one young daughter.
In this Circuit Stephen has pastoral charge with Deacon Marilyn Slowe at Blackwood Road and Four Oaks Methodist Churches, and also has pastoral charge at Kingsbury. He loves preaching about God’s grace and encouraging congregations to dig deeply into their Bibles.
In his spare time Stephen plays the piano, sings, cooks, reads, plays chess and sketches out solutions to A-Level Maths questions on the back of old sermon notes.
Deacon Rachel Thomas-Prasad – As a Deacon I feel called to servant ministry and prayer, working primarily to build bridges between church and community. Being part of the Methodist Diaconal order means that I am called to be part of a religious order alongside my calling to be an ordained minister. Within this religious order I follow a rule of life and a commitment to support fellow members of the order both practically and in prayer.
I am married to Nagendra and we have 2 children, Arun and Hannah. I originate in Wrexham, North Wales. I studied in Liverpool in the mid 90’s and then moved to Durham, where I trained as a Primary school teacher. I worked as a teacher in the North East for just under 10 years, prior to following my calling to the ministry, when I completed pre-ordination training in Durham at the Wesley Study Centre and an MA in theology and ministry.
Prior to joining the Sutton Park Circuit in 2019 I served for 10 Years in the Mid Cheshire circuit. Having been a teacher it may come as no surprise that my passion is to reach children and young people with the Gospel. It is a great joy to be serving in a place which passionately supports work with children and young people, endeavouring to nurture them in faith.
I also feel strongly that God has called me to prayerfully walk alongside those who are on the margins of society, to be God’s representative in the world, to show his love for all. I find it a great privilege and gift that people allow me to come alongside them at times in their lives when they are most vulnerable.
My other passion is singing contemporary worship music. It is with great delight that I have the opportunity to work alongside others and encourage young people to become part of a worship group here in the Sutton Park circuit.
Revd Emily Young joined the Circuit in September 2020 as a Probationer Presbyter in Pastoral charge of Boldmere, Kingstanding and Nechells – now collectively known as the North Birmingham Methodist Hub. She completed her theological training act Queen’s Birmingham.
Before moving to Queens, Emily spent 17 years as a Church youth/children/family worker in Kingston-upon-Thames, Enfield and finally Shrivenham on the Oxfordshire/Swindon border, working alongside Armed Forces Families. Despite having only three jobs, she managed to move 10 times in 20 years, so Emily is looking forward to spending time in one place!
Emily enjoys using her creative skills in worship. She is an accomplished singer and violinist, and is trained to lead Godly Play stories – accessible to young children yet with profound questions for adults too. Emily believes strongly that the church today is on a journey, and so looks forward to sharing that journey with new friends from the Sutton Park Circuit.
Revd Dr Jimmy Dube joined the Circuit in September 2020. He is a Zimbabwean contextual theologian who currently serves in circuit ministry at Sutton Park Circuit, Birmingham UK. In addition to that role , he serves as the National Chaplain for the Methodist Church Zimbabwe Fellowship. Previously he served as the General Secretary/ Conference Secretary of the Methodist Church Zimbabwe, a position he held for the last 5 years. Dube has spent many years in the academy having taught for 14 years at the United Theological College, an ecumenical institute for ministerial formation and training for the mainline denominations in Zimbabwe. Jimmy studied in Zimbabwe and the USA where did his graduate studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and at Drew University in New Jersey. His main theological thrust is more on the intersection between religion and politics, human rights and justice.
